Two big mistakes I made early on (and how I fixed them)

I messed up a couple of things big time in the early days of my business.

  • I didn’t put my business first.
  • I got a bit too comfortable.

At the time, I had a full-time gig working for a coaching organization. Every morning, I would tell myself that I’d work on my business for a few hours after dinner.

Guess what happened?

Nothing.

Well, not nothing.

Binge-watching Netflix and drinking wine is what happened.

I was so tired by the end of the day, I had no energy for my own business.

I’m guessing if you’re working full-time you can relate.

I had every intention to work on my biz. I told myself that my business was important. And I wanted to make it my full-time gig, but my daily actions didn’t reflect that.

At around the two year mark, things started getting uncomfortable.

Before that, I had been treating the job as a business and marketing internship. Learning everything I could.

Around the two year mark, I started feeling like I’d learned everything the job could teach me.

And I was too tired at night to apply what I’d been learning to my own business.

Something clearly had to change.

And it did.

You may think it was some big grand change that I made.

It wasn’t.

I made two small shifts that made all the difference.

I made my business my first priority of the day. I got up a bit earlier and spent that extra time on my business.

I spent that early morning time consistently writing emails to the people on my list.

By putting my business first in the day, I was telling myself (and the universe) that my business was my highest priority.

Things started shifting after that.

Until finally my business was at a place where I felt comfortable going out on my own.

And it all started with publishing consistent content.

If you’ve found it challenging to plan and create consistent content, it’s not your fault. You’ve got a lot of things on your plate.

And maybe you’ve thought it requires a ton of time.

But it’s not as time-consuming as you think.

I’ve developed quite a few strategies over the years to make content planning and creation as streamlined and easy as possible.

Strategies I teach in the 12x5x7 Content Method.
