My favorite strategy for overcoming fear

Back in 2014, I had the opportunity to hear Marianne Williamson speak. It was one of those “turning point” moments for me where my whole concept of fear was turned on its head.

The following is my paraphrase of her message…

Fear isn't a thing. It's the absence of a thing. It's the absence of love. Fear goes away in the presence of love.

She went on to explain that the two can’t take up the same space. If you’re feeling fear, then you’re not in the space of love and if you’re feeling love, then fear is nowhere to be found.

She shared a story to illustrate this truth.

A friend of hers was getting ready for an important meeting that could make a huge difference in her career. Naturally, the friend was very anxious about it because a lot was at stake.

Marianne worked with her so her friend was able to get to place where she could send love to herself and everyone she knew would be at the meeting.

A wonderful thing happened. The friend was able to go into the meeting completely relaxed. No anxiety. No fear. Just love, peace, and calm.

Now, let’s apply that to how you might want to show up in your business.

Enrollment Calls

Imagine taking a few minutes before your next enrollment call to fill yourself up with love… for yourself and your prospective client. Can you feel the anxiety and stress easing out of you? Can you see how your focus shifts to being of service and full of empathy? Can you imagine the difference that will make for the call?

Speaking Events

Imagine taking a few minutes before stepping out on stage to give a talk. Sending love to yourself and the audience. Imagine how much better that talk will go than if you were filled with anxiety.

Content Marketing

Imagine taking a few moments before you sit down to write your next blog post, video script, or podcast outline to send yourself and your audience love. Imagine how much better your words will flow when you focus on being of service instead of focusing on how you’ll be seen.

This one strategy has helped me accomplish so much in my business.
