Are your weaknesses getting in the way?

Are your weaknesses getting in the way?

The other day, I was on a Zoom call with my son.

Like most men during this time, he's having some interesting challenges with his hair since his county is still in lockdown and he hasn't been able to get it cut.

The style reminded me of my dad's when I was little.

So, after the call, I went digging for a picture of my dad so I could send it to my son. I found this picture of my dad, mom, and me when I was a baby...

mom, dad, and me

This picture had me cracking up!

Look at that flat top! And that is one serious beehive!

While I was laughing at their hair, this picture of me fell out of the box...

I'm 95% convinced it was my mom, who passed in 2018, saying "Oh yeah, missy, you're going to laugh at my beehive? Let me remind you of the spiral perm fiasco of '87."

Just in case you don't know what a spiral perm is, here was the promise...

At the time I blamed it on the perm and the hair stylist who gave it to me.

Decades of trying to style my hair in a way that fits my skillset (none) and interests (even less) has taught me to find an easy to manage style and don't worry about it.

And that gets me to the point of this blog post.

I talk a lot about the importance of building your business around your strengths, aptitudes, and genius zone, but it's just as important to know your weaknesses and build your business AWAY from those.

Or in the case of my hair, minimize them as much as possible.

For example, I've been asked a few times if I have a Facebook Group for my customers and clients.

I don't.

And here's why...

I've tried it.

I've sucked at it.

And I think it might have actually done my business harm.

I rarely go on Facebook for personal reasons.

It's just not something I think about.

So building it into my business wouldn't make any sense right now.

Once I'm ready to hire someone to manage it for me... someone who can just send me a list of questions I need to answer, then I'll probably add it. But until then, it just doesn't make sense.

So, let me ask you...

Is there anything in your business or marketing approach that isn't in your wheelhouse? If so, how can you change things up so that you're no longer doing it? And what can you do instead that IS in your wheelhouse?

I hope this serves you.

With love & joy,

P.S. Is there someone in your life who could benefit from reading this post? Or maybe needs a good laugh? Why not share this with them?
